Foundry Saxophone Quartet has been making music in the Hartford area since 2018. The members of Foundry Quartet met as students at The Hartt School, where they all studied with Carrie Koffman. They currently teach and perform music throughout Connecticut. The original members of Foundry Quartet are Max Schwimmer (soprano), Mallory Kokus (alto), Kara Studenski (tenor), and Andrew Studenski (baritone). Beginning in Spring 2022, we welcomed Lisa Killian as our new soprano player, replacing Max, who moved out of state.
Foundry Quartet's mission is to present concerts that are accessible to all listeners. They enjoy programming standard pieces from the saxophone quartet repertoire, as well as arrangements of popular songs, folk music, jazz, and rock. We guarantee that you will hear some familiar music at every one of our concerts!
Foundry Quartet has performed at such venues as the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Goff House Gazebo Concert Series (East Hampton, CT), Weekend in Norfolk Festival, Old Wethersfield PorchFest, and more. They have been involved with the community arts organization Hartford Performs. They can also be heard performing at the Unitarian Universalist Church of West Hartford every year on Easter Sunday.
Testimonials
"The Foundry Quartet recently played at LiveWell, a center supporting people living with dementia, and their performance was received with incredible enthusiasm. The room was packed, the music was full of life & joy, and the musicians were wonderfully engaging. At the conclusion, the quartet was immediately surrounded with audience members wanting to thank them, to share how much they loved the performance, to beg them to please come back again soon, and even just to talk saxophones! We very much hope they come again; I definitely plan on finding another opportunity to hear them play myself!"
